Nook Love

I got my beloved nook in January and have used it EVERY day! I simply love, love, love it! Downloading books from Barnes & Noble is easy – either from the store or from my nook itself. I also frequently buy ebooks from other online retailers and easily transfer them to my nook using Adobe Digital Editions. It fits comfortably in either hand, I can page forward or back on either side of the frame or using the touch screen. Also, say I’ve gotten a book with a less than family friendly cover; something that I wouldn’t want my Mom to see my read, NO ONE KNOWS! Because the book is in my nook! Smutty cover and all!

I’ve read in the car, on my couch, in my office, at the restaurant and even at Barnes & Noble. I’m looking very forward to taking it camping with me this summer as well.

Sure there are things that could be improved but the less than advertised battery life is not going to keep me down! Can’t say I’m thrilled with the way ebook prices are fluctuating either. I mean some of the ebooks are going for more than a hard cover! That’s in insane. I won’t pay more for an ebook than I would for a mass market or trade paperback.

Going digital means that I’ve also discovered a whole new set of authors! Those that are published exclusively in digital format. Granted, I’ve read some horrible books but I’ve also found wonderful new favorites like Moira Rogers. I loved the 2 books already published in the Southern Arcana series and can’t wait for the next one to come out.

Will print ever go away? It’s so hard to say. Right now I wouldn’t buy a magazine in digital format. I’ll continue to buy hard cover copies of books that I want in my forever library (the one I’ll use when power is out and my nook has no charge or when the end of the world comes and I can’t leave my house) and there will most likely be those books I want NOW rather than waiting for the digital version to be released.

Really, I love this thing! Love, love, love it!

I did it. Ordered a nook from Barnes & Noble. Won’t ship until around January 15 (most likely later if what I’m reading in different forums is any indication) but I can wait. It’s a gift for me. Will review once I actually get it in my hands! *happy dance*

I’ve been seduced

The Nook by Barnes & Nobel has totally sucked me in. Totally and utterly seduced me. I want it like a fat kid wants cake. I need to have it and need to have it soon. Which means most likely after Christmas. Because the Nook is $259.00 before adding the cool accessories, which include a snazzy cover and a clip on light so I can read on the couch next to my husband at night without having to turn on the bright light. I’d also need a screen cover to protect my precious, precious Nook.

…the Amazon Kindle. Or maybe the Sony Reader. Or maybe the Barnes & Noble Nook. It used to be I was seriously dead set against it. I’m a reader who loves the printed page. Though I’ve purchased them, I’ve never really enjoyed reading e-books on my computer. Number one, I’m tied to my computer while reading it. Visually it was not as satisfying. Emotionally not as satisfying either. Second, as a writer I have also been concerned that electronic versions of books do not produce the same income for writers as the print versions.

But this Kindle (or the Barnes & Noble Nook or the Sony Reader) seems different to me. The convenience of carrying my library with me, the ability to buy a new book on the fly and the fact that they are approximately the same size as most paperbacks…I’ve been seduced. Changing font size, color (on the Sony Reader) and expandable memory.

Okay, well, maybe I haven’t made up my mind which one I do want yet but I know that I want on. With the deepest kind of want. That selfish, it will benefit no one but me sort of want. Which is why it is low on the list. Boo.

Christmas list anyone?
